Visit the Park and the Château de Compiègne

A visit to the Château de Compiègne, located an hour from Paris

The Château de Compiègne is located not far from Paris, The access is easy because situated next to the A1 motorway. The construction of the Castle began in 1380, it has always been a royal residence. Most of the time the guests came to spend a few days at Compiègne to hunt in the surrounding forests. Nevertheless many guests complained of the cold in these large poorly heated rooms. You can also visit another castle : the castle of Pierrefonds situated a few kilometres away.

Very nice and very large ball room. The ceiling paintings remind of the victories of Napoleon. Between 1914 and 1917 the room served as a military hospital.
