The Observatory and the forest of Meudon

A superb walk in the suburbs of Paris to discover the Observatory of Meudon.

You can go to the Observatory from the SNCF station of Meudon, then you have to walk 20 minutes in the city to reach the Observatory. The last ascent is a bit rough but the effort is worth it because you will have a superb view on the capital. You can walk in the park of the Observatory, you can also join the forest of Meudon a little further if you wish to make a little longer walk. It is the ideal stroll for a Sunday, do not hesitate to discover the Observatory of Meudon.

Before the castle of the Observatory there was another castle which was completely destroyed in 1795 by a fire, it was used as a workshop for the preparation of shells! The Orangery is all that remains of this castle.

Leaving the Observatory Park and walking a little, you can see a curiosity: a hangar for airships! It was used until the end of the First World War. An airship made the world's first closed-circuit flight over the Meudon forest in 1884. It is now a cultural venue open to the public since 2023 with a restaurant.
