A visit to Cabourg

A walk in Cabourg in Normandy on the tracks of Marcel Proust.

All the seaside resorts follow each other along the Normandy coast (Etretat, Deauville, Ouistreham...). Each town has its own specificity, Cabourg is not as posh as Deauville, there are no luxury brand stores, it is also less popular and sporty than Ouistreham. To sum up, Cabourg is a lovely town in Normandy with a beautiful beach.

The history of the Grand Hotel is linked to that of Marcel Proust. The writer stayed at the Grand Hotel at the age of 10 to treat his asthma. Enthused by his stay, he returned to Cabourg as an adult and wrote his novel "A l'ombre des jeunes filles en fleurs" in a room of the Grand Hotel. In his novels he never mentions the name of Cabourg, he invented a town called "Balbec" which looks a lot like Cabourg.
