A walk along the sea at Sainte-Adresse near Le Havre

A beautiful walk along the seafront to discover Le Havre and the beach at Sainte-Adresse

The walk is very easy with no difficulties, and can be done on foot or by bike, as there is a cycle path. The walk starts in the centre of Le Havre next to St Joseph's church, then follows the beach to the small town of Sainte-Adresse, ending at a place called "le bout du monde". A lovely walk in any season (if you like the sea air).

The estacade at Sainte-Adresse

The estacade at Sainte-Adresse
An estacade is a small wooden footbridge that allows you to walk out onto the sea without having to walk on the beach. They were in fashion during the heyday of sea bathing in the mid-19th century. They also gave bathers easy access to the sea at high tide. Today, of course, it is forbidden to jump off the footbridge.

The end of the world

The end of the world
The end of the world is the nickname of the place and the terminus of the promenade, a small green area with benches for admiring the scenery. There used to be a beautiful hotel here, but it was blown up by the Germans in 1942.
